The spectrum of our treatment plan begins with the most conservative first, prior to proceeding to more invasive techniques. Dr. Emad specializes in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry), Electrodiagnostic Medicine. 


Dr. Emad believes that "with the advancement in technology today, no one should suffer from pain." He believes that accurate diagnosis is essential for specific treatment, to achieve optimal outcome for each individual patient. Dr. Emad focuses on diagnosing the problem, but treating the patient. He believes in a comprehensive, integrated, team approach for treatment of the whole person, with emphasis on non-surgical treatment and functional restoration. He focuses on minimizing the impact of illness or injury upon function, such as the ability to move, communicate, care for oneself and work. Patients are guided through their individual therapy programs.

Dr. Emad brings the specialized principals of Physiatry, Electrodiagnostic and Pain Medicine together to effectively analyze and treat a diverse spectrum of injuries and illnesses. His evaluation is a comprehensive inventory of the whole person in the context of their physical injury and the disabilities related to the injury.


Dr. Emad is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry). As a physiatrist he diagnoses and treats acute and chronic disorders of muscles, bones and nerves non-surgically, with emphasis on functional restoration. He treats injuries related to work, auto accident, sports, arthritis and nerve damage involving the extremities and the spinal column.


Dr. Emad is board certified in Pain Medicine and performs procedures such as injections of cortisone, prolotherapy, epidurals, as well as special procedures for lumbar spine disc herniation (discography, etc.).


Dr. Emad specializes in Electrodiagnostic Medicine (NERVE, Inc.) which is a special testing of the nerves to assess for injury to diagnose conditions such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Sciatica (Electromyography, Nerve Conduction Study). Whether an injury is mechanical or neuropathic is the critical consideration to effectively minimize further injury and disability. Expert electrodiagnostic testing assures an accurate, evidence based diagnosis that fosters an appropriate treatment protocol.


Dr. Emad is a Qualified Medical Evaluator for the state of California. He performs med-legal evaluations for assessment of disability, as well as serving as an expert witness for personal injury cases.

Education:

Dr. Behzad Emad is a graduate of the State University of New York at Oneonta with an honors degree in chemistry. Dr. Emad received his medical degree from the State University of New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn. He served an internship at the University of California, Irvine. He completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of California, Los Angeles where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Emad is board certified: Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine.
